A message from the founding members:

Bonjour chers parents and community supporters,

The SRFACS family has reason to celebrate! We are happy to announce that the interests of all children in our school communities have been carefully considered and that the following is planned:

1. SRFACS will be located at 1350 Sonoma Avenue in Santa Rosa, CA. The first day of school will be on Monday, August 20, 2012.

2. For the academic year 2012-13 only, SRFACS will be joined by the Brook Hill Elementary satellite campus (formerly Doyle Park Elementary School).

3. SRFACS’ charter remains intact. We plan to operate SRFACS as promised from the outset.

We are going to welcome SRFACS and Brook Hill satellite students with open arms. We truly believe that all involved in this process have the future of our children in mind, and are ready to prepare them for the challenges of the 21st Century.

We would like to express our gratitude to Mr. Roy Miller, a local attorney and SRFACS parent, who wisely counseled us through a legal maze while providing needed support and compassion. Merci pour votre aide Maître Miller.

Opening day is not far away, and we are staying focused on the tasks at hand. We eagerly look forward to our work with Mr. Stricher and preparing for our inaugural year.

Our education community is in a better place today, and we are resolute in our belief that great education needs commitment, time and passion.

Sincèrement,
Founding Members

We had the pleasure of participating in multiple interviews, as well as spending quality time with Mr. Stricher in recent weeks. With impeccable credentials and past experience working in international schools in France, Lebanon, Pakistan and Angola, we feel that we have found the perfect match for our globally focused school. Mr. Stricher received his Professeur des Écoles credentials from the French Ministry of Education, Académie de Paris. He has extensive experience as a Director of Schools and is currently serving as the Principal of the Toronto French School (TFS).

Please see the press release announcing our new Principal: Press Release

Bienvenue M. Stricher!

Now that we have our Principal, we will begin to address the Teacher applications that have been pouring into the District. The interview process will begin shortly.

Our registration process continues, and preparation for opening on August 20, 2012 is on the fast track with our Principal, the District, and the Founding Members working together. On June 7, 2012 we expect a ruling confirming the location of SRFACS at 1350 Sonoma Avenue in Santa Rosa, CA.

We are looking forward to hosting social events that will bring our community together. Here is a list of the upcoming events:

May – An evening with the Principal

June – Family picnic and Fête de la Musique on June 23 (date to be confirmed)

July – Bastille Day Celebrations/meeting with the Principal

August – Opening Celebrations attended by the French Consulate and other officials

We are very excited with our recent progress and looking forward to the future.

Cordialement,

This is a quick dish, but elegant, and perfect now that warm weather has arrived. Bon appétit!

Wine Country Chicken with Pan-Glazed Grapes makes 4 servings

2 tsp. Salt

4 boneless chicken breasts *

3 Tbl. butter

1 1/2 cups seedless green grapes

1 Tbl. oil

1/4 cup finely chopped onion

1 clove garlic, minced

3/4 cup Sonoma County white wine

1/4 cup water

1/4 cup heavy cream

1 tsp. minced fresh thyme

1/8 tsp. pepper

Rub the chicken breasts all over with salt, cover and refrigerate for 1-2 hours. Meanwhile, prepare remaining ingredients.

Melt 2 Tbl. butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat and sauté the grapes until lightly browned, stirring often. Remove grapes and set aside. (You will use the same pan to cook the chicken.)

Rinse the chicken breasts, drain them then pat dry with paper towels. Season them with pepper. If you’re using skinless breasts, dust them lightly on both sides with flour (not necessary for skin-on breasts.)

Add 1 Tbl. butter and 1 Tbl. oil to the pan. When it bubbles add the chicken and brown it on both sides. Add the onion and garlic to the pan and cook, stirring often, about 2 minutes.

Add wine and water to pan, stirring to deglaze any browned bits. Cover pan, reduce heat to low and cook gently for 6-8 minutes * .

Remove chicken to a platter and cover to keep warm. Add cream to pan, increase heat to high and boil until liquid in pan is reduced by about 1/3 and slightly thickened. Add grapes, thyme and pepper and heat through. Pour over chicken and serve.

* This recipe may also be prepared with bone-in chicken pieces. After browning, cook bone-in breasts covered over low heat 12-15 minutes, legs or thighs for 20-30 minutes. Finish as described above.
